Michael Slater is
president of PhotoTablet and acting director of hardware development.
He was with MicroDesign Resources for 12 years, a company
he founded to publish the Microprocessor Report newsletter. He has written
extensively about microprocessors, personal computers, and information
appliances. He was president of MDR for its first 7 years, when he shifted
to principal analyst and conference director. He also served for various
periods as director of marketing. He started the Microprocessor Forum
and Embedded Processor Forum conferences and has consulted on product
strategy for major microprocessor manufacturers. He is a columnist for
EE Times, Computer Shopper, Electronic Business, ASCII, and Nikkei Electronics
Asia and is a well-known speaker and seminar leader at conferences such
as WinHEC and Comdex, in addition to MDR's own conferences. Before founding
MDR, he worked as an independent consultant designing microprocessor-based
products (both hardware and software); he was a vice president of Logical
Services, Inc., a consulting firm; and began his career at Hewlett-Packard,
where he was an R&D engineer for three years. He is the author of the
text Microprocessor-Based Design and has a B.S.E.E. from U.C. Berkeley.
